Val Doesn't Write Happy Poetry

in hushed tone.

Chuckle softly, stroke my chin. 
"Heh, sorry. Trauma response. 
Nothing better¹ came to mind."

1. By this, she may have meant hopeful or optimistic.²
2. Not that she doesn't speak these languages. She just tends to qualify³ her struggles.
3. Not that they don't need context⁴, it's important not to exaggerate.
4. But then, if the context was unsolicited, the transgressions⁵ start to pile up and–
5. I'm sorry. I'm sorry⁶ I said that. It's not that bad. 
6. "Sorry for what? Why are you saying you're sorry?"
7. Heh, sorry. Trauma response. Nothing better came to mind.
