What's a Ghost?

What makes a ghost?
Some sort of specter
Crying out, rattling chains?
Perhaps even bearing a warning,
A moral tale about your behavior
And how it causes only pain.

Would a ghost be like
A poltergeist,
Troubled man who cannot sleep?
No eternal rest for his soul
So no rest in life for anyone else.

Or is a ghost more like a vision,
Of a dear departed loved one?
Come to remind you of better times
Value the world that you forgot.

Maybe a ghost is something living,
Surely departed, but not gone.
Said smiling that we'd talk sometime soon,
And four texts in, left on Read,
I think that, in a way,
Ghosts these days are all the same.
